Our Graduate Nurse Program provides an opportunity to develop clinical knowledge and skills in a supportive environment while caring for patients of varying needs.

Our 12-month graduate program has rotations through all specialties:

At Tallangatta Health Service (THS) we provide continued education, training and support while enrolled and offer a second-year continuation if you want to focus on one specialty area.

  • How many graduate positions are available at Tallangatta Health?

    There are two RN graduate positions available.

  • Is there accommodation provided?

    Accommodation can be discussed at interview.

  • How do I apply?

    The process is the same for all graduate applicants. You will need to apply to each facility individually and register with the Postgraduate Medical Council of Victoria (PMCV) Allocation & Placement Service.

  • When are applications ppen?

    Applications open June-July 2026.

  • When and where will interviews be held?

    PMCV requires a video interview to be completed in conjunction with your direct application, CV, cover letter and referee reports.

    Tallangatta Health Service requires an interview, conducted either face to face or online.

  • When does the graduate year commence?

    Tallangatta Health Service has three intakes: January, February and March. Considerations can be taken in to account for a mid- year intake.

  • What shifts do I work on the graduate program?

    You will be expected to work a rotating roster, including weekends.

  • Am I employed part-time?

    At Tallangatta Health Service, graduates are employed for 1 year at 64hrs per fortnight (0.8FTE). You will be provided with a contract to sign prior to commencement at Tallangatta Health Service.

  • What support is offered to graduates?

    Tallangatta Health Service offers the following supports:

    • Educators and clinical support nurse 5 days a week.
    • Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
    • Nurse Managers (NM), Associate Nurse Unit Managers (ANUM), registered nurses (RN) and endorsed enrolled nurses (EEN), and members of the multidisciplinary team are always happy to support your clinical needs and professional development.
    • Networking via a meet and greet lunch with other staff.
    • Family orientated facility and assistance with accommodation for travelling graduates.
  • What opportunities are available after the Graduate Program?

    Opportunities to stay employed with Tallangatta Health Service, support for specialised study in urgent care, palliative care and community.

  • What study days do I get to attend?

    All graduate nurses will receive allocated study days.

    In addition to the allocated days, graduate nurses will receive continued intra hospital training days.

  • What are the requirements to be eligible to apply?
    To be eligible to apply, you must meet the following criteria:
    • Will qualify for registration as a registered nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia.
    • Completed all course requirements between 1st January 2025 and before 30th June 2026
    • Be an Australian / NZ citizen or temporary resident who holds a visa that gives them the “right to work” in Australia.

    AND - Meet one of the following criteria:

    • Victorian resident studying at an approved Victoria education provider.

    OR

    • Victorian resident studying on-line at an Interstate University (via Distance Education).

    OR

    OR

    • Interstate / New Zealand residents relocating to Victoria in 2026. Statutory declaration mandatory requirement.
  • I am an interstate or international applicant? Am I eligible to apply?

    Yes, but you must be willing to relocate to Victoria and supply a statutory declaration form to Post Graduate Medical Council of Victoria (PMCV) when applying.

    Candidates who are not genuinely moving to Victoria in 2026, are welcome to join the Late Vacancy process if they have an unsuccessful outcome from their own State’s match.

  • How many references do I need for my application?

    Referee reports are essential to support your application.

    You will need 2 clinical referees (mandatory) and at a minimum one must be working in a clinical supervisor role from a student placement, such as:

      • Nurse / Midwife Unit Manager
      • Clinical Nurse / Midwife consultants
      • Clinical Nurse / Midwife Educator
      • Clinical facilitator
      • Clinical support nurse / midwife
      • Clinical preceptor

    Only if you cannot supply a second referee from a student placement can you nominate:

      • A Nurse / Midwife Unit Manager or Clinical Nurse / Midwife Educator or clinical supervisor when you were a RUSON / RUSOM.
